Betting sites & exchanges
Choosing where to back a dog or a horse begins with a licence check, since the best price from an unlicensed firm is worth little. This section describes the check and the types of site.
Betting exchanges, which hold the betting intermediary licence, are the natural neighbour of racing prices. Beyond them come newer and better-known bookmakers, small independents, spread betting platforms and the high-limit and no-limit sites.
The register of the Gambling Commission is public and searchable. A .com web address is used by licensed firms, and so says nothing about the licence. Operators set their own maximum stakes, as no statutory cap in sports betting is established.
