Tips & predictions

Racing tips make the cleanest case that a pick is a judgement about value, because a field of runners is priced against itself. This section looks at tips from that angle.

Machine forecasts, human tipsters, daily picks and 1X2 selections are taken in turn, with the sums that matter: the overround in a market is the bookmaker’s margin, every price implies a probability, and a fraction converts to decimals (5/1 gives 6.00).

No selection is named and no result promised, because no tip is a sure bet. The punter pays no tax on betting winnings, and a professional gambler is referred to HMRC or an adviser.
